Set against the backdrop of World Delirium Awareness Day (13th March 2024), Armstrong Medical (part of Eakin Healthcare) was proud to present its ‘Inspiring Critical Care’ study event, focusing on delirium – a sudden confusion, particularly prevalent in critical care settings.

Chief Commercial Officer – Respiratory, Andi Regan-Murphy said:

“Our inspiring study events are designed for respiratory healthcare professionals to come together to share knowledge and stay at the forefront of critical care issues. With delirium emerging as a significant concern in critical care, our event is a great platform to explore innovative approaches and drive positive change in delirium management.”

Delirium, an often misunderstood and complex issue, creates significant challenges for healthcare professionals and patients. Recognising the need for enhanced awareness and education, guest speaker Dr Leona Bannon, Assistant Professor in General Nursing at the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health at Dublin City University, delivered a presentation on ‘Clearing the fog: Unveiling Effective Non-Pharmacological Interventions for Delirium Management in the ICU and beyond’.

Dr Bannon was joined by Aisling Meehan, a health sciences student at University College Dublin. In 2020, she underwent lifesaving neurosurgery and had a long recovery in ICU while relearning how to read, write, eat, stand, and walk again.

Other topics covered at the event included non-invasive ventilation options, respiratory failure SIM, wellbeing matters for critical care nurses and practical workshops on CPAP and High Flow Oxygen Therapy delivery.

Guests were treated to a factory tour of the Coleraine site enhancing attendees’ understanding of the company’s commitment to quality manufacturing and innovation in respiratory medical devices.

The next study event focusing on Respiratory Physiotherapy will be held 5th & 6th June at the Coleraine site.
