Pleural Drainage Sets

In hospital practice, pleural drainage (thoracocentesis) may be required in many diŽfferent clinical settings for a variety of indications e.g. pneumothorax, malignant pleural effusions, pleural effusion associated sepsis.

Pleural drainage describes a procedure whereby pleural fluid or air may be drained via a system inserted temporarily into the pleural space. This may be for diagnostic purposes or therapeutic to relieve symptoms. (1)

Pleural drainage sets may also be used for the drainage of seroma resulting from breast surgery.
